The Return of the Jumble Sale

With new and additional storage, our popular jumble sales have returned! Penryn and Falmouth Foodbank were the first group to use our excess stock to raise funds towards the purchase of a building to provide a home for the Hub of Help. Nearly £400 was raised through the sale of our stock. Here’s some of the photos from the event. Keep an eye out for the date for the next jumble sale on our Facebook page!

Penryn Treasures Fashion Show

On Saturday 14th November volunteers and staff from Penryn Treasures Charity Shop and the Penryn and Falmouth Foodbank held a fundraising Christmas Ball themed Fashion Show at the Highway Community Centre.

Many beautiful outfits were showcased all of which had been donated to the charity shop over recent months and they were enthusiastically modelled by volunteers from Penryn Treasures as well as young people from the Penryn Youth Cafe. Tim Gooch who works at the Highway Community Centre said “the night was vibrant and was a privilege to be part of sustaining Foodbank and the Youth Cafe in such a fun way”.

The preparation for the event involved the Youth Group demonstrating pirate themed dances which they learnt from Gill Sadler from Dance Embrace Fitness, Gill also choreographed the final folk dance which required a bit of audience participation.   The cat-walk models were trained and choreographed by Falmouth University Student Claire Painter.

Felicia Francis commented “it was a fun evening for all. It was brilliant to see the kids engaging with everything- they all had a fantastic time!” Although the final figure is still not confirmed as money is still coming in – the event proved to be a great success as over £400 has been raised so far for the Foodbank by selling the donated clothes and raffle tickets.

Thanking those who had supported the event Rachel said “the Foodbank does an amazing job, supporting local people and families – it can be tough. To raise funds to support the project in such a fun and uplifting way is really important, using the amazing community space we have here is such a blessing and we are very thankful to everyone who helped, donated or supplied amazing raffle prizes. Everyone involved has made a positive impact on the local community”.

Additional funds there raised by the young people who ran the Youth Café on the night and all the monies made by them will be re-invested into the Youth Group.
